It’s 8:00 in the morning, and like many Gen Zs, Jamela Arabella Degala, 23, is already on her phone, scrolling through TikTok and Facebook. But this isn’t just a casual scroll; it’s part of Jam’s work as a social media marketer for well-known brands in the Philippines.
Remarkably, Jam has just recently finished her Marketing Management degree, graduating cum Laude. While she’s already putting that knowledge to use in her corporate job, she has other plans this year.
Jam is relaunching Sweet Spot PH, her beloved home bakery known for its delicious cookies and pastries.
“Never take anything for granted,” Jam shares as her mantra. “Everything should be done with the essence of hard work and making the best out of every opportunity given.”
Now, after a short pause, it’s Sweet Spot PH’s turn to make its comeback. This is an opportunity Jam’s not taking for granted. She’s pouring hard work and quality into every step of its return.
Where It All Began for Sweet Spot PH

Sweet Spot PH kicked off as what Jam calls a “shotgun idea.” A friend suggested turning her baking hobby into a business for a school pop-up event.
Sweet Spot PH generally offers delightful cookies, including classic chocolate chip, double choco, Oreo-topped, matcha, and red velvet flavors.
On occasion, especially during holidays like Valentine’s and Christmas, the menu expands. You might find luscious red velvet cakes, banana muffins, or fresh breads available during summer.
When asked what her personal favorite on the menu is, she’s quick to reply, “Classic chocolate chip is my favorite.” She remembers making “so many batches of cookie batter to perfect its taste and quality.
Sweet Spot PH started as a casual school selling, but grew quickly. “People keep asking about it,” she notes, leading to invites to various academic events.
“The enjoyment that I saw from customers from eating my products motivated my drive to make the business into a reality,” she explains.
Her very first sales were a clear sign. At one event, her treats sold out in just 30 minutes! That quick success solidified her passion.
While Sweet Spot PH isn’t always actively promoting, whenever Jam posts on her personal account, orders pour in. Most of them come from happy customer referrals. She typically receives at least 5 boxes of cookies or 2 trays of muffins a day.
Her proudest achievement so far? Being invited as a concessionaire for Prism 2024. “My proudest achievement was being invited to be a concessionaire for Prism 2024, held at the SMX Convention Center in MOA,” she says proudly
Baking a Balance Business

“Being short-staffed was my big problem,” Jam admits, especially during peak times like back-to-school, Valentine’s, and Christmas seasons. Mistakes in production also affected flow and finances due to wasted ingredients.
Balancing a budding business with studies demanded strict discipline. “My number one rule is that I shop during Saturdays, bake on [the rest of the] the weekend, and distribute throughout the weekdays,” she shares.
Her mom sometimes helps by selling at her workplace. Meanwhile, Jam carefully lists down orders throughout the week, whether online or in person.
During midterms and finals, she asks for orders in advance to ensure she can fulfill requests without disrupting anyone’s academics.
Despite the challenges, Jam finds immense joy in her work. “Baking is my therapy,” she reveals. She often bakes at night, enjoying the peace and quiet away from her phone.
What makes every treat special is that it’s a complete one-woman show. From sourcing ingredients to production, cleanup, and marketing, Jam handles everything herself. “So you know that hard work really goes into every product sold,” she adds.
The Hiatus

As Jam approached her final year in college, she had to complete an internship as part of her graduation requirements. This new commitment led to a temporary pause for Sweet Spot PH in 2024.
Even so, the demand for Sweet Spot PH’s treats never truly faded. Customers kept reaching out, and Jam’s love for baking stayed strong. So, after graduating, she decided to bring the brand back.
Today, Sweet Spot PH is accepting orders once again, now with even more customers, including her workmates at Be Global E-commerce Corporation.
Her Sweet Legacy

Over the next five years, Jam aims to balance corporate work while slowly rebuilding Sweet Spot PH. She plans to expand cookie variety and make the brand known and affordable, competing with established players.
Sweet Spot PH has reshaped Jam’s view on entrepreneurship.
“It gave me a blueprint from experience,” she says, “for how I want to build a legacy and a brand for myself, and how fulfilling it is to see others enjoy it too.”
Sweet Spot PH is a testament to making the best out of every opportunity and never taking anything for granted. Each challenge Jam faced and every win she earned reflect her commitment. It shows that her sweet legacy is already taking shape.
